  • Bangladesh Capital Market Development Master Plan-2012-2022: Content   Detail

 

    Mr. Md. A. Salam Sikder, has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission as its Member on July 14, 2011. Prior to joining the Commission, he worked as District Judge and has  retired from the position. He possessed wide judicial experience over his long judicial service carrier. He is a freedom fighter of the liberation war of 1971.  The government has appointed him as Member of the Commission for a period of three years.

 

    Mr. Md. Amzad Hossain, has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission as its Member on May 30, 2011. Prior to joining the Commission, he worked in Bangladesh Bank for around 30 years and has recently retired from the position of Executive Director. He possessed wide central banking experience in its different areas. He possessed masters degree in Management from Rajshahi University. The government has appointed him as Member of the Commission for a period of three years.

 

  • Mr. Md. Arif Khan, has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission as its Member on May 30, 2011. Prior to joining the Commission, he worked in private sectors like Zenith Investments Ltd as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director,  IDLC  Ltd, Beximco Ltd, Arab Bagladesh Bank Ltd(now AB Bank Ltd) for a total of around 21 years and has possessed wide experience related to the market. He obtained MBA from IBA, CMA and CFA degree, and M.Com degree from DU in Finance.  He is a former president of Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association. The government has appointed him as Member of the Commission for a period of three years.

 

  • Professor Dr. M. Khairul Hossain has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission as its Chairman on May 15, 2011. He is a Professor of Finance at Dhaka University and possesses wide knowledge on capital market. Prior to joining SEC, he was serving as the Chairman of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB). Government has appointed him as the Chairman of the Commission for a period of three years.

 

  • Mr. Md. Helal Uddin Nizami, Professor of Chittagong University has joined the Commission as its Member on May 04, 2011. Government has appointed him as Member of the Commission for three years. Mr. Nizami is a Professor of Accounting and Information Systems. He started his carrier as Faculty of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM). Later he joined the Chittagong University in 1992. He is a Senate Member, former Syndicate Member, former General Secretary of Chittagong University Teacher’s Association (CUTTA).

 

  • A 51-Member National Defense Course-2009 delegation  from National Defense College(NDC) visits the Securities and Exchange Commission today, on 27 May 2009. On arrival,  Team Leader Brigadier  General Illyas Iftekhar Rasul, ndc, psc, calls on the Chairman Mr. Md. Ziaul Haque Khondker. After that they join they team at conference room and start the program. Honorable Chairman, in his welcome address, expresses his great pleasure at the  visit of NDC Team to SEC and  welcomes all. Team Leader introduces the team and expresses his gratitude to the Commission for arranging such program every year. Mr. Mohammad Abdul Hannan Zoarder, Executive Director, makes the presentation on capital market, especially on  the critical issues currently  being handled and the challenges ahead. An interactive informal discussion takes place where participants raise questions on various issues in the capital market. The Chairman, Members and Senior Officials  of SEC answer those questions. The program ends following vote of thanks and hand-over of crests.

  • Mr. Md. Ziaul Haque Khondker has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission today, on 4th May 2009, as its Chairman. Prior to joining the Commission, Mr. Khondker was the Managing Director of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh(ICB). He has around 30 years of experience in the capital market at various positions. His vast experience will contribute towards effective development of the capital market.

 

  • Mr. Md. Anisuzzaman has been appointed as  Member of the Commission by the government  and he joined the Commission on 15 April, 2009. He is a retired District Judge and has earned wide experience in judicial arena over his long carrier in judicial service. His wisdom and experience will contribute in enhancing the capability of the Commission and in developing the capital market.

 

  • Merchant banker licenses of Pangaea Partners (BD) Ltd and Prime Securities & Financial Services Ltd have been cancelled  due to violation of securities laws by Orders dated February 24, 2009.

  • Honorable Finance Minister Mr. AMA Muhit visited the capital market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission on Saturday, February 07,  2009. He is  informed about various limitations of the Commission and opportunities of the capital market to contribute in economy. Delegates from DSE, CSE  and other institutions  informed the minister about potential of the capital market to contribute in GDP and possibility of employment generation in the country. The minister appeals to all stakeholders to do their best for the development of the  capital market. 

 

  • Mr. Muhammad Yasin Ali has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission as its Member on 1st January 2009. Prior to joining the Commission, Mr. Ali served Bangladesh Bank as Executive Director, where he worked for about last 33 years and gathered extensive and versatile central banking experience in managing critical economic and monetary issues of the country. 

During his carrier in the central bank, he obtained professional training and education from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA,    and Economic Institute, Boulder, Colorado, USA. He attended many seminars and workshops in Canada, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, Philippines, and India etc. Mr. Ali was a brilliant student throughout his academic life and his wide experience will contribute in the development of the capital market.

  • On 12th December 2007, a meeting of Advisory Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC) took place  at its conference room, at 10:30 AM. Mr. Faruq Ahmad Siddiqi, Chairman, SEC chaired the meeting where Members of the Commission were present and most of the members of the committee attended.  Senior officers of the Commission were also present. Mr. Mohammad Abdul Hannan Zoardar, Executive Director and  Mr. Farhad Ahmed, Executive Director made presentations on the meeting's agenda:

         Government has appointed Mr. Mansur Alam as Member of Securities and Exchange Commission. He joined the Commission on June 11, 2007. He earned special expertise on capital market over his last around 15 years of job in the Commission, major part of which as the senior most Executive Director. He is the first officer from SEC who has got such an appointment.

         A 32 members National Defense  College (NDC)  delegation lead by Mr. Shaikh Mohammad Moniruzzaman(E), ndc, psc, BN,.Senior Directing Staff (Navy) visited Securities and Exchange Commission on May 16, 2006. The Commission welcomed  the delegation and made a presentation focusing on the various issues of capital market. Mr. Faruk Ahmed Siddiqi ,Chairman of the Commission gave an welcome speech  and highlighted major issues concerning capital market. Mr. Abbas Uddin Khan, FCA,  Member of the Commission, made a detailed presentation on "Overview of  Bangladesh Capital Market and important issues being confronted/handled'. All the Members and senior two Executive Directors of the Commission were present  during the presentation. The delegation opined that Securities and Exchange Commission has been striving hard towards the development of the capital market of  Bangladesh.

 

    On March 15, 2006, Mr. Faruk Ahmed Siddiqi joined Securities and Exchange Commission as its 6th Chairman for a 3 years term.. He is a former Secretary of Commerce, Posts and Telecommunications, and Education ministries. He started his carrier with the erstwhile Pakistan Taxation Service in 1969.

 

    Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam, Chairman, SEC,  has spent his last working day at SEC on 22 February 2006 and then retired. Now Mr. Saleh Ahmed Chowdhury, Member, SEC, has been working as the Acting Chairman of the Commission. The Commission offered a farewell on 23 February 2006 to the departing Chairman in his honour.

 

    SEC Chairman Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam, on 22 February 2006, at last working day of his little more than 2 years tenure, made a press conference on overview of capital market scenario from October 2003 to February 2006 and its current status at SEC Board Room. Different electronic and news paper media were present at the press conference. Mr. Islam depicted the developments of the capital market during his tenure and  also his unfinished agendas  in  his presentation. He answered different questions from the audience and thanked all for extending cooperation.
