

Honorable Finance Minister Mr. AMA Muhit visited the capital market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission on Saturday, February 07, 2009. He is informed about various limitations of the Commission and opportunities of the capital market to contribute in economy. Delegates from DSE, CSE and other institutions informed the minister about potential of the capital market to contribute in GDP and possibility of employment generation in the country. The minister appeals to all stakeholders to do their best for the development of the capital market.
Mr. Muhammad Yasin Ali has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission as its Member on 1st January 2009. Prior to joining the Commission, Mr. Ali served Bangladesh Bank as Executive Director, where he worked for about last 33 years and gathered extensive and versatile central banking experience in managing critical economic and monetary issues of the country.
During his carrier in the central bank, he obtained professional training and education from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA, and Economic Institute, Boulder, Colorado, USA. He attended many seminars and workshops in Canada, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, Philippines, and India etc. Mr. Ali was a brilliant student throughout his academic life and his wide experience will contribute in the development of the capital market.

Government has appointed Mr. Mansur Alam as Member of Securities and Exchange Commission. He joined the Commission on June 11, 2007. He earned special expertise on capital market over his last around 15 years of job in the Commission, major part of which as the senior most Executive Director. He is the first officer from SEC who has got such an appointment.

A 32 members National Defense College (NDC) delegation lead by Mr. Shaikh Mohammad Moniruzzaman(E), ndc, psc, BN,.Senior Directing Staff (Navy) visited Securities and Exchange Commission on May 16, 2006. The Commission welcomed the delegation and made a presentation focusing on the various issues of capital market. Mr. Faruk Ahmed Siddiqi ,Chairman of the Commission gave an welcome speech and highlighted major issues concerning capital market. Mr. Abbas Uddin Khan, FCA, Member of the Commission, made a detailed presentation on "Overview of Bangladesh Capital Market and important issues being confronted/handled'. All the Members and senior two Executive Directors of the Commission were present during the presentation. The delegation opined that Securities and Exchange Commission has been striving hard towards the development of the capital market of Bangladesh.
On March 15, 2006, Mr. Faruk Ahmed Siddiqi joined Securities and Exchange Commission as its 6th Chairman for a 3 years term.. He is a former Secretary of Commerce, Posts and Telecommunications, and Education ministries. He started his carrier with the erstwhile Pakistan Taxation Service in 1969.
Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam, Chairman, SEC, has spent his last working day at SEC on 22 February 2006 and then retired. Now Mr. Saleh Ahmed Chowdhury, Member, SEC, has been working as the Acting Chairman of the Commission. The Commission offered a farewell on 23 February 2006 to the departing Chairman in his honour.
SEC Chairman Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam, on 22 February 2006, at last working day of his little more than 2 years tenure, made a press conference on overview of capital market scenario from October 2003 to February 2006 and its current status at SEC Board Room. Different electronic and news paper media were present at the press conference. Mr. Islam depicted the developments of the capital market during his tenure and also his unfinished agendas in his presentation. He answered different questions from the audience and thanked all for extending cooperation.
