Monthly activity reports of the Commission are regularly sent to the Ministry of Finance. Besides, R&D Department also sends different other reports, statements, information etc. to different agencies such as Bangladesh Bank, Investment Corporation of Bangladesh etc. as and when needed.

Investors’ Education Program: 

SEC launched a weekly Investors’ Education Program on June 30, 1999 to educate the general public about the capital market of the country. The first phase of the program was completed on October 27, 1999. The training course includes – Functioning of SEC, DSE and CSE, Investment in the Secondary Market, Investment in the Primary Market, and Central Depository System (CDS). Altogether 257 participants in 16 batches took part in the program. 

Investors’ Awareness Program:

The Securities and Exchange Commission in collaboration with CSE organized a seminar on “Investment in Share Market: 1996 Vs 2000” under investors’ awareness program at a local hotel in Chittagong on May 13, 2000. About 450 investors participated in the seminar. SEC’s former Chairman M.A. Syed was the chief guest while CSE President Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury MP chaired the Seminar. Among others SEC Member Dr. Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury, Executive Directors Mansur Alam and R. Tareque Moudud, Director Farhad Ahmed and Deputy Director Syed Sofiqul Hossain, and CEO of CSE Wali-ul-Maroof Matin were present on the occasion.
SEC has already arranged separate seminars in Dhaka for the common investors and the merchant bankers as part of its awareness program. Besides, a workshop was conducted in the Business Studies Faculty of Dhaka University on November 22, 1999 on Central Depository System. About 150 students and teachers of Finance & Banking Department participated in the workshop.

Status of CDS:

The Securities and Exchange Commission in its Board Meeting held on June 4, 2000 approved the draft of the operational framework for a Central Depository System i.e. the Depositories Regulations, 2000,  with a view to pave the way for scripless trading in the stock markets. Gazette notification of the regulation was published on June 28, 2000.
