As on 30th June 1998 there were 224 listed securities (Table 1A) with Dhaka Stock Exchange. During 1997-98 Financial Year 10 Securities were listed increasing the number of listed Securities to 224 from 214 as of 30th June 1997. The listed securities comprise shares of 204 Companies, 9 Mutual Funds and 11 Debentures. 

Issued Capital and Market Capitalization of the 10(ten) Securities listed with DSE during FY 1997-98 was Taka 1,191 and 1,582 million respectively. During 1996-97 Financial Year 22 Securities were listed having a Total Issued Capital and Total Market Capitalization of Taka 3,275 and 5,190 million respectively.

There were 144 Securities listed with the CSE (Table 1B) constituted by 131 Companies, 9 Mutual Funds and 4 Debentures. The Total Issued Capital and Total Market Capitalization of the CSE as on 30th June 1998 stood Taka 23,298 and Taka 49,993 million respectively.

Altogether, the total number of tradable Securities in DSE aggregated 523.21 million having a Total Issued Capital of Taka 30,211 million as on 30th June 1998 as against tradable securities aggregating on 471.1 million having a Total Issued Capital of Taka 26,907 million as on 30th  June 1997. During FY 1997-98 the number of tradable Securities was increased by 11.06% and Total Issued Capital rose by 12.58%.

While the total number of tradable securities in CSE stood at 399.19 million against total issued capital of Tk. 23,298 million as on 30the June 1998 as against tradable securities aggregating 347.12 million haming a tatol issued capital of Tk. 21,191 million as on 30th June 1997. As a result during the year 1997-98 the number of tradable securities was increased by 15% and total issued capital rose by 9.94%.

Total Market Capitalization of all listed Securities in DSE amounted to Taka 67,728 million as on 30th June 1998 compared to Taka 107,827 million as on 30th June 1997 representing a decline in Market Capitalization of 37.19%. The Market Capitalization declined during the year by Taka 40,099 million due to -(i) listing of lesser number of new Issues (ii) absence of Right and Bonus Issues, and (iii) impact of decrease in All Share Price Index by.

Annual turnover in DSE and CSE during FY 1997-98 was 181.7 million Securities compared to 154.4 million Securities during the FY 1997-97. All Share Price Index of DSE declined from 1111.55 as on 30th June 1997 to 676.47 as on 30th June 1998 by 39.14%. The CSE All Securities Price Index as on 30th June 1998 was 194.72 which is 38.04% less than the Index 475.69 on 30th June 1997.

Total Market Capitalization of all listed Securities in the CSE amounted to Taka 49,993 million as on 30th June 1998 compared to Taka 71,777 million as on 30th June 1997 representing a decline in Market Capitalization of 30.35%. The decline in Market Capitalization Taka 21,784 could be resulted by inadequate number IPOs and supply of Right/Bonus shares.
